I visited the war museum in Bendigo, Victoria. One of the guides fought in Nam. He said 'The Yanks' were very loud in the jungle and that bothered the Aussies as the Vietcong were always on the horizon. Certainly at night. 😆

Without a doubt, one of the best documentaries. Thank you to the brave Australian and New Zealand soldiers from Philadelphia, PA (U.S.) People always hear about French and American soldiers fighting in Vietnam but seldom is Australia and New Zealand mentioned. I have seen a lot of of Vietnam documentaries, but this the only one that made me cry. They were outnumbered and held the VC off. Amazing perseverance and courage.

my cousin was wia and died in Vietnam on June 26, 1966, in Quan Loi Vietnam in a rubber plantation in relief of a platoon on night ambush being overrun. I hope Australia never forgets the sacrifice these Australians made for each other in a rubber plantation 58 years ago in august 1966. Such a great video honoring their sacrifice.

This footage appears to be from the Aussie ABC TV produced 'Diggers in Vietnam' tv shows broadcast in about 1965 or 66. In the Aussie Army in the early 1980s, we were told Aussie infantry in Vietnam did not wear helmets in the J due to helmet's negative affect on being able to detect the direction from which sounds made by the dreaded en (army speak for dreaded enemy) came from. The soft hats the infantry are wearing in the J, we called giggle hats! cos they looked silly! Heard the Yanks call them Boonies.

In 1987-1988, I spent 2 years doing a school research story/project for eventually my NSW HSC school exams. I made it on the "effect on the Aussie Soldiers that were in Vietnam War "...... I spoke to a few soldier's that were in the Long Tan Operation....... No one in my class at school thought it was important. But my teacher did.....I got 90%. She is now the Principal of that School. I finished grade 12 and went into the Australian Army at 19..........My Troop Sgt was a Vet of Vietnam......Nonetheless, He was a bastard to us all young kids!
